Brother, we just spoke a few weeks ago n u said u where on the mend. Sad to find out u where wrong. Family n health are the only things that really matter. Told the wife about the famous ditch jump after a football match at El Dorado park. We had a good laugh. Watching Bailey slipping n splitting his head open was knee waddling funny. Dude u will be missed.

Very sad to hear this about Jerry. He was such a solid guy. We had some great experiences in our youth- in fact I think it was with Jerry the first time I got high. He was a great president of Dema Phi. :) We had some good talks when I was going through a tough time a while back, and I will always remember his clear and simple advice - "if they can't act like normal people then- fuck em". He really helped me during that time and I will never forget it. Rest in peace, Brother Jerry.

Well, I wanted to post something but can’t find the words. This may not sound like the Jerry you all knew, but to me he was the funniest, smartest and big hearted guy I knew.  I hope he had a great life and did everything he ever wanted. We never dated,ha, it would have been like Little Bo Peep and the Big Bad Wolf. Rest In Peace old friend.

Jerry was a force of nature who became my first roommate with a couple of other guys.  It wasn't uncommon to be woken up with taps on his trumpet at 6 am.  Attending LBCC and working at Zody's, it was necessary to have these funny sit down come to Jesus meetings regarding personal space with Jerry's huge personality.  I quickly morphed into the parent freely giving my grandmother's best lectures to anyone who would listen.  Jerry would always look at me and nod with affirmation and saying with one word, "Far out." I laugh and cry thinking of those times.

My parents in 1970 made the mistake of listing their house and moving out leaving me the keys.  Jerry heard of possible place to crash and quickly assumed his new residence.  When the realtor caravan open the door to our converted garage den they were hit by a heavy cloud of smoke with Jerry in there somewhere.  I had just come home from work when Jerry informed me, "These people in suits just stopped by, they didn't even knock."   Soon the phone rang, it was my mom from Wrightwood to let me know my brother Griff and a few of his LA Ram buddies were on there way to assess the situation and that it probably won't end well for me.  It actually worked out OK.  The story became a Griffith Family Classic starring Jerry Griffin.

Mark and Jerry go camping in Sequoia.  Jerry knew of a special campsite we hiked to.  We settled in, drank a little Southern Comfort.  Just as the sun had set we observed lightning playing tag with the two peeks at the top of this all rock canyon.  The lightning became deafening, Jerry looked at me and said, "I never met a morphus I didn't like."  Loved it. Soon the winds picked up, a gentle mist of rain began as the tremperature started to plunge.  Then pouring rain was replaced by huge hail stones.  We were not prepared for this as all, our gear and down bags were soaked.  This became very serious and it was impossible to leave without light.  Hyperthermia became a real issue, so Jerry and I began walking in small circles for approximately 6 hours till daylight.  I think if we weren't both young and strong and resouceful this would have been a different outcome.  I will miss you Jerry, thanks for all the moments we shared.

The big man is still with me. Jerry & I were born on the same day in LB, CA. I was hours older. We were relentless handball players, and partiers. We teamed up most of the time for doubles at LB State & LBCC. We won the team tournament at LBCC. Many adventures with Jerry, some that I won't or can't share. Probably many I can't remember- party time was all the time. We went to deep creek a few times out in the desert &  enjoyed the hot springs & his cool knowledge of astronomy. Visited him in AZ a few years ago. Nice visit. He & Daniele were the most gracious hosts. Loved his music, wit & good heart. Happy trails amigo!

Shortly after high school I worked with the daughter of Mr. Slauson, our 5th grade teacher.  When I had the chance to talk to him he apologetically, but honestly, admitted that he didn't remember having me as a student.  When I told him that Jerry was in my class he immediately said "Oh, I remember Jerry!'.  He didn't comment about why he remembered Jerry.  We'll have to guess.

I had forgotten about Jerry & Jim playing handball at LBCC etc. I actually moved to San Diego area in 1972 to 1974 because handball was so well organized there. A lot of those partys were at my house when Jerry was a roommate for several months 1970 or 1971 while I was renting our family home on Stearns St from my parents. Jerry was forming a band that jammed in my living room. The guy across the street went nuts and fired 2 bullets through my entry/living room. 1 bullet stopped in the 3rd wall before hitting me in the back bedroom. I don't think the police did much to him either. The last time I talked to Jerry, he was living in the Tuscon area. He apologized for some of the stuff that happened but I only remembered the good times at the Braswell house.

We made a plan for Lake Tahoe and stayed with som guys he knew there. It was a great trip with amazing snow. The next I heard he moved to Denver Colorado and then I lost track.
