I knew Mike Spetzman from my 30 plus years of living in Seal Beach.....I remember him as "Mikey Spetzman" from HS.....Mike Spetzman had a great life...many children, lived at the house on 1st street for many decades and when we'd walk by he was always sitting in his beach chair and waving to the crowds of passerbys.

He had a reputation in town for being the best halibut fisherman and would never give away his secret spots. Fished hard, played hard, great surfer. He was very involved with his kids and I would see him on the fields on McGaugh being the baseball coach, soccer coach.....he was a great dad. He was happy and full of fun. It was just a freak accident that spiraled his life downwards. Fell fell off a skateboard. He had brain damage and was never the same. He died a few years later. We miss seeing him. He had just retired and the world was his. Rest easy Mikey.

Mke - he was in our group of surf buddies in high school and college, spent time in the water together catching waves, skateboarded, partied, talked about chicks, we even tried dating the same girls, he usually won out, as the girls enjoyed his smile and humor. I bought one of his used surfboards back in 1970 or 1971. Last surfboard I had on the west coast before I got my new board that I took to Maui. I saw only him once or twice after I moved to Maui. He was a great guy, with a wonderful spirit, and it was sad news when Bob Lyon told me he passed away. RIP Spetzman
