In middle school, Marshall Jr. HIgh, we walked to and from school every day.  Kelly Whitlow would join us half way.  We had such good talks.  Bob was on the quiet side, but always had something meaninful to say.  So sad, he was a victim of Viet Nam.

Bobby was in my grade school classes at Cubberley.  I remember one of the songs we’d sing was Bobby Shaftoe.  I would sing loudly “Bobby Shaftoe’s gone to sea, Silver buckle on his knee, He’ll come back and marry meeee-eee, Dear Bobby Shaftoe.”   I think I was always singing to you, Bobby Strebig.  I’m sorry you missed out on so much of the life you could have had.  You died in 1976 serving our country, as it was turning 200,  and I had a one year old boy.  As we are about to celebrate our 50th year since graduating Millikan, I salute you and thank you for your service to our country, Sir,  Another star of our class is coming home today, Randy Rasmussen.  He can join you, and Christy McKee, and Pam Ratner for a game of four square, and some kickball.  To me, you all are forever young.

I had heard that Bob died in Vietnam in 1976.  As I was writing my other tribute,  I realized the dates didn’t make sense.  The war ended in 1975.  Could someone with more knowledge than me check into these dates as we, as a class, owe it to Bob to get it right.
