Thanks for your comments about Gerald, Mark. I think I got to know him because I knew you and John P. I had occasion to visit him at the home on Josie back when we were kids .... he showed (and taught me how to build) a crazy mouse-trap invention involving the trap, some cheese, a firecracker and the frayed ends of an electrical cord plugged into the wall (it's got me laughin' just thinking about it). To me, Gerald was just a quiet, friendly big guy I knew (who also happened to be the only kid I knew who would challenge Pat DeLuca to a one-on-one after-school "conversation" behind the playground backstop). Thanks for showing us he was so much more than that.
Hi Norena - I have a couple questions
1. We have litte stadium bleacher seats that have a metal frame. Do you know if these will be allowed at the game? Any other restrictions we have to be aware of at the game.
2. We paid for all the events with our Visa. What do we need to bring to prove we paid.
Our old weekend sports buddy is no longer with us due to tragic circumstances. Since our Emerson days, whatever sport was in season, you'd find Stan, Jay Jenks, Don Arney, Mike Lipson, Doug Palonsky & me (and by the time we got to Stanford JH), Dave Schulman, Chris Petersen & Steve Shideler (who did I forget?) getting together to play the sport of the season, usually on the fields at Millikan. And let's not forget those hot days of summer playing Marco Polo in Alex Henry's family pool!
Stan was a quiet, likable, friendly, mild mannered guy and though we lost touch after our K-12 days, I wanted to be sure all of us who once knew him well learned he had lived well before his tragic end; if you view the video about his tragic end, you'll find people who knew him now saying the same thing about the kind and gentle person he was. The story says Stan was a regular at his church. Maybe some of our class remembers him from church. Also, our '69 annual says he worked on the Corydon staff.
When I first heard the story, I wasn't sure if it was "our" Stan Stephens they were talking about, but the full name given (Stanley Stephens), age and description of the person in the story led me to contact Chris Hutchison who was able to engage a special investigation agency to reveal that "our" Stan did live in Escondido, the city were the person in the story lived and disappeared from. So .... I'm pretty confident it's our Stan we lost. May he rest in peace.
