Many great opportunities were handed to me following HS. My draft number was 12, which was a certain call into the Army. I had no desire to fight a senseless war in Southeast Asia, so I decided to serve my country by enlisting in the Coast Guard. While there I worked as a dental, chair-side assistant. Then a CG school to become a radioman opened up. Three months later I was listening to the dits and dahs of Morse code and responding to distress calls at NMQ, CG Radio Station Long Beach. In 1973 I received an honorable discharge, and decided to serve a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Texas. After returning I graduated from BYU in Broadcast Journalism, and had a great time working as a TV Sports broadcaster at KSL, KNSD, KTLA, KCAL (KHJ), and KING-5 in Seattle. From 2010 to 2017 my wife and I worked for Blendtec as demonstrators and regional managers. Our territory included all of California and Hawaii. I retired in 2017 and today I’m a volunteer assistant Track coach at Hurricane High School in Southern Utah.

School Story

Admittedly, I was a pretty lost kid as I entered the 10th grade. I was more interested in following a bunch of hoods rather than opening books to learn something. It took me a full year to discover school was more than a social club. Once I had my bearings straight, thanks to Mr. Seymour and a couple of other school counselors, I started to understand why I was in school. I changed my attitude, but chose to remain social by choosing significantly better friends. Student government and sports occupied my interest. Bucky Harris was a magnificent Track & Cross Country coach as he produced many athletes who succeeded and went on to earn college scholarships. High School was an enjoyable time for me, and I’m grateful for the handful of close friends with whom I still associate.

Happy Birthday Duane. I still remember, vividly, that fateful day at Patrick Henry when the thrown bat met your two central incisors. Hope all is well with you, my friend.

Happy Birthday, Terry!

It feels like just yesterday we were walking the halls of Millikan together, and now here we are, celebrating so many incredible years of life and friendship. I’m grateful for the memories we share from 55 years ago, and I hope this birthday brings you as much joy as those carefree days we enjoyed.

Wishing you health, happiness, and all the best in the year ahead. Here’s to many more wonderful moments and milestones!

Warmest wishes,
Steve

Happy birthday Annette. At our age it’s not the wisest thing in celebrating our age, wrinkles, aches and pains, but in your case we celebrate how many wonderful experiences we’ve enjoyed as your friend. You have always been a bright and shining example of decency, kindness, and a faithful classmate. Enjoy your birthday, my friend, and may you enjoy many more in the coming years.
